I do need to take some time here to focus on the subject of adoption by gay parents. Let me just clarify that by saying gay I am refering to LGBT as a whole, not just gay men.

Where did the idea that children adopted by gay couples would grow up with ‘twisted values’ come from anyway? And who comes up with these silly ‘values’ in the first place? Society? Religion? Governments? All of the above?

I’ll give you a good example on religion’s influence at least: The Times Online carries an article about how a London cardinal believes it would be discriminatory for church members to have to accept gay adoptions. Point taken. Now lets think about it the other way round: couple loves each other, is happy together with a stable relationship, have a stable financial situation and believe a baby would complete their household. What are the grounds for refusal here? ‘You are happy and stable enough, but just a tad too queer’? So much for values such as respect, understanding, compassion, responsability (by putting a good candidate in the back-burner because of homophobia, they are ultimately denying a child a stable home). Wait, wasn’t the whole argument the fact that gay couples are corrupting VALUES??? One must wonder…

What a shame that governments are letting religion influence in their fairness and good judgement. Good on you Netherlands… at least one of us still believes in love.

Gay marriage… now there’s a thorny issue. Since this is my ‘domain’, I’ll express my opinion, which is the following: I don’t see what the fuss is all about to be honest. It seems perfectly natural to me that two people who love each other should tie the knot, not only to feel more ‘official’, but also for alimony, adoption and inheritance purposes. The latter, especially, is the one which seems to cause the most fuss around the straight as well as the gay communities. The issue of whether a partner, having legally married or not, should receive any financial means specifically left for them in a will shouldn’t even be discussed. Just because the partner has passed away does not mean s/he does not have the right to see his/her will followed through by family members, lawyers and the state.

Now, to the more difficult subject to discuss: religion. When it comes to this, I believe it is not a matter of whether you believe in God or not, but whether you respect your fellow man or not. Choices are choices, and even though you might think it is not right by God’s law, does not mean you should disrespect the opinions of those who think differently.

My little utopia world, of love and understanding… I still trust it will happen. Do you?

A woman has been found strangled to death in her flat in Leander Road, Thornton Heath, South London, this past Wednesday, 21st November.Kellie Telesford, 40, a transvestite who frequented gay and lesbian clubs and is said to have brought partners back home for ‘casual sex’, was found on her living room floor clad in a bathrobe, bra and underpants. The killer is believed to be a ‘casual sex partner’ who committed the killing and fled after discovering the true gender of Ms. Telesford. Born Kayiode Dexter Telesford in Trinidad & Tobago, Ms. Telesford had, according to The Sun who referred to her as a ‘Trannie’, been living as a woman for several years, but had never had a sex-change operation. This has sparked discussions in the media about whether Ms. Telesford should be referred to as a man or a woman as she was anatomically still a man but identified as a woman. The terms Transgender, Transvestite and Transsexual have all been used to describe Ms. Telesford.

Overlooking any stereotypes, Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons has informed that the police are trying to build a picture of her lifestyle and would welcome any contributions from people who knew or remember Ms. Telesford. He has also stated that the police are not treating the incident as a gay-hate crime at this point. According to Mr. Lyons, “it should be stressed that we have not seen any further incidents similar to Kellie’s murder”.

This blog will discuss issues concerning the gay community from a ‘straight’s’ point of view. Firstly, I would just like to say that yes, I am straight, but am not against gays or lesbians, on the contrary, I believe they are overlooked and underrated in society, which is why I decided to write my own point of view of how some people in the gay community portray the community to the rest of the world and issues surronding gay marriage (which I am all for), gay parenting and others.

Hope you enjoy it, hope it makes you think about things and comment about it, I’m a sucker for a good discussion .
